Motorola Axes 400 More Jobs
12/31/2008
Motorola Inc. (MOT) said late Tuesday it’s cutting 400 more jobs in the fourth quarter than it had originally planned. The additional layoffs will cost the mobile phone maker $189 million more in charges for the quarter. Motorola said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that all of its business segments, “as well as various corporate functions, are impacted by these plans.” Motorola is having such a tough time that it, like other corporations, isn’t contributing to workers’ retirement plans, is freezing pension plans, stopping wage increases and cutting the two top execs’ salaries.
