Apple Sells 1 Millionth iPhone

09/10/2007

Apple Inc. said Monday it sold its 1 millionth iPhone over the weekend.

The company said on its Web site the milestone was achieved on Sunday, 74 days after the launch of the device. The iPhone debuted to much fanfare June 29.

In comparison, Apple said, it took two years to sell its 1 millionth iPod.

Last week Apple cut the price of the phone by $200, a move that sent stocks tumbling more than 5 percent and upset many customers who recently bought the iPhone. The company later apologized and offered anyone who bought the phone before the price cut a $100 credit for Apple purchases.

Apple’s 8GB iPhone now costs $399 and its 4GB version is being discontinued.

The announcement of the 1 millionth sold iPhone helped Apple’s stock Monday. It was up 2.68 percent to $134.45 through late morning trading.
