VoIP provider Nuvio Corp. has added a new facet to its Powered by Nuvio Partner Program. The company has created the Custom Bill Package, which it developed for ISPs wanting to custom bill and bundle voice in a double or triple-play offering. Nuvio says its partner program allows ISPs to profit from an exploding market, without having to incur the cost and delay of building their own VoIP network.

XO Communications Inc. has struck nine wholesale agreements that will allow telecommunications providers to offer local voice and data services to businesses in as many as 36 markets across the country. XO has disclosed deals with Access Point Inc., AireSpring, Capital Telecommunications, Cross Stream Communications, InterGlobe, LDMI Telecommunications Inc., QTel, Rural Communications and Wholesale Carrier Services Inc. XO can provide local phone service to businesses with five lines or greater depending on the area and the monthly revenue commitment.

Hosted VoIP provider CommPartners says wireless ISP WisperTEL will use CommPartner's VoIP platform to offer phone service to 1,700 high-speed Internet customers in Colorado. WisperTEL will provide unlimited local calling and such features as caller ID and call waiting for $19.95 a month, plus long-distance service for 3 cents a minute. Las Vegas-based CommPartners markets VoIP services to telecommunications companies, including subscriber endpoint control, connectivity to the PSTN, long distance services and subscriber management. It recently introduced its 'NFL city footprint.' By mid- 2005, the company intends its network to cover metro areas served by Tier 1 through Tier 4 carriers in the United States. The service will enable access to more than 8,500 local calling rate centers, the company says.

McGraw Communications, a CLEC serving the small and medium enterprise market, has joined the Level 3 Communications Inc. (3)Enabled Partner Program so it can expand its VoIP services. The Level 3 services include (3)Tone Business, voice termination, high-speed Internet access and colocation. McGraw says Level 3's infrastructure services will be used to consolidate as much VoIP traffic as possible over the Level 3 network. McGraw services 5,000 locations nationwide, providing long-distance in 45 states and local service in 11 states. Many of the companys customers are retailers and nonprofit organizations.

Verizon Communications Inc.

announced in late August the company reached a commercial agreement to lease its local phone network to Granite Telecommunications, replacing an existing arrangement under rules rejected by a federal appeals court but reinstated for six months by the FCC. Verizon, the largest local phone company, says the agreement includes new pricing and services not offered under current government- mandated network rules. Granite, based in Quincy, Mass., is one of Verizon's largest UNE-P resellers. Granite claims customers in 28 states where Verizon has a presence and supports more than 200,000 local lines in 49 states.

BellSouth Corp. has added TV service to its package of consumer services, which means DIRECTV now is available through company call centers. Under the terms of the marketing alliance with DIRECTV, BellSouth will be responsible for sales and ordering functions while DIRECTV will provide installation, billing and service for customers. BellSouth executives say the company has introduced the service to help keep customers loyal by adding another component to the bundled packages consumers purchase. Qualifying customers can save up to $10 a month on DIRECTV.
