Dorman Named AT&T President

David Dorman, 46, has been appointed president of AT&T, chairman and CEO C. Michael Armstrong announced. The present CEO of Concert--the worldwide venture between AT&T Corp. (www.att.com) and British Telecommunications (BT, www.bt.com)--Dorman will manage operations of the company's core consumer and business services units in addition to its network services group, international ventures and AT&T Labs.

AT&T and BT have announced that Gerard R. Weis, 53, the venture's current president and COO, would become Concert's (www.concert.com) acting CEO. Dorman will oversee AT&T's interest in Concert.

Prior to accepting the post as Concert's CEO in April 1999, Dorman was chairman, president and CEO of PointCast, an Internet-based news and information service. In 1994, he became the youngest CEO of a Bell operating company when Pacific Bell named Dorman its leader. He was 39. Following the Pacific Telesis-SBC Communications Inc. (www.sbc.com) merger, Dorman served as the executive vice president responsible for strategy, Internet and long-distance services. He also worked 14 years for Sprint Corp. (www.sprint.com), ultimately holding a position as the president of the company's business services unit.

A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Dorman is serving his second term on President Clinton's Advisory Committee on High Performance Computing and Communications, Information Technology and Next Generation Internet.
